The CDK-RB-E2F family of transcription factors is involved in cell-cycle progression and differentiation. E2F1 protein expression is cell-cycle regulated. It is at its lowest level during late G1 and early S phase. Thus, its expression is controlled by negative and positive cell-cycle regulators. Here we show that the pocket protein pRb2/p130 and its interacting partner E2F1 can form a trimeric complex. The binding sites of pRb2/p130 and E2F1 in the promoter region of the human interleukin-6 gene were mapped by chromatin immunoprecipitation.
